SURPRISE, SURPRISE

To continue on my previous thought, I asked myself why I decided to look into the song only after I heard it on the radio. (Journal Entry #2) The months of my friend's singing had the tune linger into my head occasionally, but it was only after I heard it on the radio that it really stuck. I couldn't help but ask, why is that?

Why does it take a public broadcast for someone (maybe it's just me) to really get engaged in something? Is minor exposure to songs or anything in general enough? If it's not (and it seems like it isn't), why?

It took me a few days to come up with a possible answer and I'm still not sure if it's right. It goes something along these lines: Things with minor exposure are not widely accepted or engaged in because the majority of the society is not in on it.

Yes, yes, I'm sure you're squinting your eyes or tilting your head to some degree at the possibly (probably) incorrect conclusion, but my reasoning is quite simple. Unless individuals seek out these minor things, the lagging society will continue to linger on what is currently "big" because that is what the overall society is hung up on at the moment.

Lagging society is a nickname I give to people who don't really go out looking for new material but use social media to stay updated on what is "HOT". I guess this is what some people call "try-hard" or "fake" on social media sites because these individuals copy the action or words of the "HOT" people.

I didn't have a great example planned, but if I were to present one right now, I could talk about hoverboards. Hoverboards have been in the market since 2014 but it wasn't until popular people were seen with these boards that more consumers poured into the market. And even after the ban due to fire hazards and more, orders are still being made because individuals want to be seen with it.
